چکیده
Abstract As a novel X-ray focusing technology, lobster-eye micropore optics (MPO) feature both wide observing field of view and true imaging capability, promising sky monitoring with significantly improved sensitivity spatial resolution in soft X-rays. Since first proposed by Angel, the have been extensively studied, developed trialed over past decades. In this Letter, we report on first-light results from flight experiment Lobster Eye Imager for Astronomy, pathfinder wide-field telescope Einstein Probe mission. The piggyback imager, launched 2022 July, has mostly unvignetted 18.°6 × 18.°6. Its is range 4?–7? FWHM focal spot effective area 2–3 cm 2 , showing only mild fluctuations across view. We present images Galactic center region, Sco X-1, diffuse Cygnus Loop nebular taken snapshot observations 0.5–4 keV. These are truly celestial bodies observed, time, telescope. Initial analyses in-flight data show excellent agreement between observed on-ground calibration simulations. instrument its characterization briefly described, as well experiment. provide solid basis development missions using MPO.

Wide field x-ray telescope a moderate class mission
Sensitive surveys of the X-ray universe have been limited to small areas of the sky due to the intrinsically small field of view of Wolter-I X-ray optics, whose angular resolution degrades with the square of the off axis angle. High angular resolution is needed to achieve a low background per source, minimize source confusion, and distinguish point from extended objects. WFXT consists of three ...
متن کاملThin glass shell oriented to Wide Field X-ray telescope
The next generation wide-field X-ray telescope (WFXT), to be implemented beyond eRosita and proposed within the NASA RFI call 2011, requires an angular resolution of less than 10 arcsec (with goal of 5”) constant across a wide field of view (1 deg). To achieve this requirement the design is based on nested modified grazing incidence Wolter-I mirrors with polynomial profiles. Our goals in terms ...
متن کاملA focusing telescope for gamma-ray astronomy
With the development of the Laue Lens, gamma-ray astronomy is presently realizing the step that virtually all branches of astronomy have accomplished since Lippershey’s invention 400 years ago: the focusing telescope. In a Laue lens, gamma-rays interact coherently inside a crystal via Bragg-diffraction; a large number of diffraction crystals are oriented in a way to deviate incident photons ont...
متن کاملProcessing the Images from the Lobster Eye X–Ray Optic
The Lobster Eye optic is a kind of an X–Ray optic with a moderate angular resolution and a very large Field of View. Images obtained from the optic are well distinguishable due to the characteristic cross structure around the sources, which is the artefact of the optic. We present here the work on the modifications of two standard image processing methods to remove the cross and generaly to enh...
